I'm back from Iowa for three days of work. The drive back alone was mostly boring and a little nerve wracking when the snow started around Faribault. It was super wet snow and most of the drivers slowed down appropriately. Every so often though someone would whip by and freak me out.
Christmas was great with snow in Iowa too. There were cookie and pie baking days. Both sides of Shannon's family were in good spirits. The youngest babies took center stage which required the 13 year olds to realize they are now second-tier in the gift opening hierarchy. My belly got rubbed a few times which was both bizarre and ok. I know they are expressing their excitement and anticipation and try not to dwell on the personal space violation. The good pecan pie was had and appreciated by myself and others. We now have both a waffle maker again (woo!) and a cast iron skillet (double woo!) I forsee lots of waffles and dutch babies in our futures.
The dog highlight appeared to be when Max, Birdie and Marlys' dog Daisy all flushed out a rabbit from the shop Christmas morning. Max fought the others off for the joy of dismembering and eating it. Then moments after we let him back in, after hoping enough time had passed, he promptly vomited bloody guts on the carpet.
